FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Almost three dozen Fort Wayne police officers will be headed to Cleveland next month to provide security for the Republican National Convention.

Our partners in news at 21Alive report that 35 members of the department’s riot squad will be helping with security at the convention, as a part of preemptive measures in the wake of riots at several Donald Trump rallies recently.

Captain Scott Berning says this is the first time the team, which was hand-chosen last year, has had to suit up in full gear, and they’re looking forward to some “real life” experience.

Their work will be paid for through a federal grant.
