HARTFORD CITY, Ind. (WOWO) — A mother in Hartford City is accused of beating her 7-year-old daughter to the point of near death.

The mother initially claimed the child was having a seizure and had been bitten by a dog, but doctors found significant brain damage and non-accidental injuries.

Both parents blamed each other during police interviews, with the mother admitting to beating the child with a hammer and punching her.

The mother was charged with neglect and battery offenses, while the father was charged with neglect.
