WASHINGTON, D.C.–President Trump is promising what he calls a “golden age of America.” He says that began on Monday with his inauguration.

Speaking after being sworn in as President of the United States, Trump said the country will be respected again and will no longer be taken advantage of while he remains in office. He plans to sign executive orders to begin mass deportations, ramp up energy production and reverse recent climate change policies and transgender rights.

Trump said he will reinstate his “Remain in Mexico” policy and said the U.S. “will be a manufacturing nation once again.”

Indiana Republican Congressman Rudy Yakym said Trump taking back over as President is “the beginning of America’s comeback.”

Indiana Republican Senator Jim Banks says he “will always stand with President Trump in the Senate and look forward to fighting alongside him to restore American greatness.”

Indiana’s Governor Mike Braun was at the inauguration. He says he’s excited to work alongside Trump to help Hoosiers. Trump was the President from January 20, 2017 until January 20, 2021.

As for how Hoosiers felt, they gave varying perspectives on Trump’s return to the White House.

“I feel excellent about it. I feel great,” said one man.

Another man felt different.

“Extremely horrible and disgusted. I hate Donald Trump,” he said.

A woman in Indianapolis said his upcoming term will likely be filled with “chaos and ridiculousness.”

A man standing next to her said he hopes Trump “makes good on his promises and sticks to his word.” He also “hopes the economy bounces back.”

A separate group of people said they want to see something else aside from politics.

“We need to make America united again,” said one man.

When another man was asked what he wanted most, all he said was “Peace.”

Country singer Carrie Underwood performed “America the Beautiful” at the inauguration. Outgoing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were also at the inauguration.
