FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne is home to more than 266,000 people… so why do city officials seem to exclusively focus on the downtown area, and developing it?

Mayor Tom Henry tells WOWO News there are projects underway all over the city, but the downtown area is a focal point because of its potential:

“We work on the premise that downtowns need to be places that are attractive to live, work and play. You may not live downtown, but you might work downtown. Or you might not work downtown, but you might want to play downtown.”

Ground broke today on another downtown project, a Hampton Inn & Suites that will also introduce two unique restaurant concepts. Henry added that another big announcement is coming in the next few weeks, but he wouldn’t tell us what.

Henry added that city officials are also focusing on other spots throughout town, and will highlight projects in those areas as they arise.
