Highway Worker Killed

MORTON, Ind. (AP) – Indiana State Police say a highway work site flagger has died after being struck by a vehicle.

Sgt. Joe Watts says a 27-year-old Steven Overbay of Roachdale was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision Tuesday morning on U.S. 36 in Putnam County.

Watts says 79-year-old Cleve Scott was approaching a work site about 40 miles west of Indianapolis when he came upon stopped traffic and veered right to avoid it, striking Overbay as he stood on the berm. Watts says the collision propelled Overbay onto the hood of Scott’s vehicle and partially through the windshield.

Watts says Scott was taken to an Indianapolis hospital with a broken arm and cuts.

Watts says Overbay was wearing a reflective vest and that signs warned oncoming traffic of the work site.
