Holiday Airfares Going Up

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): One of the nation‘s leading travel websites says NOW is time to book those holiday travel trips.

Kayak.com Spokesperson Jessica Casano Antonellis says after mid-October, airfares for holiday travel beginning with Thanksgiving are set to rise by about 17%. Antonellis says that‘s based on their analysis of last year‘s fares.

Worse yet, Kayak finds that Christmas and New Year‘s Eve fares jumped by upwards of 51%. Antonellis says the best days to book domestic flights for Thanksgiving travel are the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving. She adds that the cheapest days for return travel include Thanksgiving Day itself and the Friday after. She says weekends are usually the most expensive days to fly.

The best time for Christmas travel is as close to Christmas Day as possible. The same holds true for New Years. Some analyst argue airlines know holiday travel demand is high and they charge heftier fares knowing people will pay.
