Huntington County Commissioners Meeting to Decide Wind Ordinance

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Potential wind farms are blowing up a storm of opinion in Huntington County.

Monday afternoon dozens attended a public meeting hosted by county commissioners. The gathering was hosted by county commissioners for residents to share their thoughts on changes to the current wind ordinance.

Opponents, including the group Huntington County Concerned Citizens, are asking that wind turbines be at least 2,640 feet from nearby homes and noise produced to 35 decibels or less. They are concerned a would-be wind development company is too closely involved in the process of writing an amendment to the ordinance.

The group says that will minimize the environmental impact. County plan commission is considering a less restrictive plan that would allow wind towers within 1,000 feet and up to 50 decibels.

A second meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the GAR room of the County Courthouse.
