Ideas for Fort Wayne’s Downtown Riverfront Gaining Steam

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Ideas for Fort Wayne's Downtown Riverfront are gaining steam.

Consultants from SWA Group met with city officials last night and offered several concepts. Their brainstorming is a mix of nature, recreation and development for the waterways.

Some ideas include developing the St. Mary's River at Lawton Park into a lake-like atmosphere with a playground, beach volleyball and porch swings, perhaps even a Ferris wheel.  The area at Bloomingdale includes docks, platforms and nature walks.

In the design is a promenade walkway along the river banks near Superior St. That area would highlight retail, dining and residential projects.
