IN Attorney General Filing 3 More Lawsuits

The Indiana Attorney General’s office is filing three more lawsuits against out-of-state businesses using misleading mailers. The businesses are offering copies of property deeds for a cost up to $89. Property deeds are public records, and county recorders can provide copies for free or at a low cost, sometimes as low as one dollar per page. Homeowners don’t even have to have copies, even when they go to sell a property. Attorney General Greg Zoeller says the problem is that Hoosiers think these solicitations are notices from the government. So, if consumers have questions, they should contact their local government directly.
