Indiana Panel Urges Suspension of Embattled Judge

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A state judicial commission is calling for the suspension of a central Indiana judge who faces misconduct allegations until the state Supreme Court decides her fate.

The state's Commission on Judicial Qualifications says in a petition filed Jan. 3 that Marion Superior Judge Kimberly Brown's immediate removal from the bench “is necessary to restore the public's faith in our state's system of justice.”

The Indianapolis Star reports Brown's attorney filed a response Wednesday asking that the suspension request be denied.

Brown faces numerous misconduct counts, including allegations she delayed the release of at least nine defendants from jail. She's also accused of failing to train or supervise court employees, creating a hostile environment for staff and attorneys, and other allegations.
