INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana education officials expect to know in the coming months whether the state will have continued flexibility from the requirements of federal No Child Left Behind law.

State Department of Education spokesman Daniel Altman says Indiana is requesting a three-year extension of the waiver it received for this past school year. The waiver allows the state greater flexibility in how it spends some $230 million in federal education funding.

The U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan on Tuesday approved waivers for seven states and the District of Columbia.

Altman tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1BAL3KI ) that the state agency expects a decision on Indiana's waiver by late summer or early fall.
