NORTH LIBERTY, Ind. (AP) – A pair of bald eagles that endured three failed attempts to reproduce in northern Indiana finally has a nest full of hungry chicks.

The Department of Natural Resources says the eagle pair had three straight nesting failures in a remote area of Potato Creek State Park about 10 miles southwest of South Bend.

But this spring the pair's persistence paid off and they successfully hatched three eaglets. The parents are now busy catching fish at the park's Worster Lake to feed their brood.

The chicks should be ready to fly by late June. And this fall they'll head out on their own and wander around North America for about four years. 

When they're four or five, they'll return to the area where they hatched to find a mate and nest.
