Indiana Dunes State Park is Open and Ready for Visitors

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana Dunes State Park is open and ready for visitors.

Property managers with Indiana Dunes State Park say there's been confusion so they want to assure you that the dunes are open, except for the one closure of Mount Baldy, along with its trail and beach area in front of the dune. This, while authorities continue to investigate why a 6 year-old Illinois boy was nearly buried alive in the sand.

Although Mount Baldy is off limits, the remaining 15,000 acres of the Dunes National Lakeshore are open to visitors. They also say although there hasn't been any indication of similar occurrences elsewhere, the park crew and lifeguard staff will conduct daily monitoring of the beach.
