WHITING, IN. (WOWO) Indiana Governor Mike Braun joined union workers Tuesday on the picket line outside the BP Refinery, calling on the company to return to contract negotiations.

The lockout began March 19 after talks between the company and the union stalled. Hundreds of workers have been barred from the refinery, which union leaders have described as illegal. Braun said he was visiting to show support for the employees’ efforts.

According to WSBT 22, BP stated that a comprehensive offer has been presented and that the refinery will continue operating with trained staff. The company does not anticipate disruptions to production despite the ongoing labor dispute.

Union representatives say negotiations have been stalled for months, and tensions remain high as workers continue to picket outside the facility. Braun’s presence marks one of the most visible showings of political support for the striking employees.
