Indiana Man Dies After Barricade Incident in Muncie

MUNCIE, IN. (WOWO) Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal police shooting in Muncie that occurred Tuesday evening. Officers were conducting a welfare check in the 300 block of South Ivy Wood Drive around 5 p.m. when a man reportedly pointed a handgun at them and retreated into his home, according to a press release from ISP.

Negotiators remained on the scene for several hours, attempting to persuade the man to surrender peacefully. At approximately 8:50 p.m., officers deployed a chemical agent into the residence. Shots were fired during the deployment, and the man was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

His identity has not been released pending notification of the next of kin. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be forwarded to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, according to ISP.
