Indiana Prosecutor: Police-action Shooting Justified

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP): A western Indiana prosecutor says a fatal police-action shooting in February was justified and he won't pursue charges in that case.

Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt said Friday he reached his decision after reviewing an Indiana State Police report on the fatal Feb. 25 shooting of 31-year-old Alexander Long.

The Terre Haute man was wanted on a warrant for charges of rape, criminal confinement and domestic battery when he led police on a car chase.

Police say Long rammed his car into police cars and ignored officers' commands. A Terre Haute officer fatally shot him after Long made a threatening move by reaching inside his jacket.

No weapons were found in Long's vehicle.
