Indiana State Trooper Badly Hurt in Crash With Semitrailer

ROSELAWN, Ind. (AP) _ State police say a trooper was badly injured when a semitrailer smashed into his cruiser in rural northwestern Indiana.

Police say emergency crews had to extricate Trooper Brant Goubeaux from the car after the crash about 5:20 a.m. Wednesday on Indiana 10 near the town of Roselawn. Goubeaux was taken by helicopter to a suburban Chicago hospital with serious non-life threatening leg injuries.

Sgt. Ann Wojas says Goubeaux was making a U-turn to pursue a traffic violator when a semitrailer that was traveling behind him ran into the driver's side door of the trooper's car at the site about 30 miles south of Gary.

The semi driver wasn't hurt, and Wojas said no charges were expected against him.

Goubeaux is 25 and became a state trooper in January.
