Indiana Steps Closer to State Fair Alcohol Sales

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana is a step closer to joining 48 other states that allow alcohol sales at their state fairs.

The House Public Policy Committee on Wednesday approved sending the issue to the full House for its consideration.

The state Senate previously approved the bill to lift a ban on alcohol during the Indiana State Fair that spans nearly seven decades.

North Carolina is the only other state that still does not allow fairgoers to down a cold beer on site. Ohio ended a ban on beer and wine in 2011.

Both the full House and Gov. Mike Pence must still approve the measure before the State Fair can start selling alcohol.
