Indiana Taking Preschool Pilot Family Applications

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Needy families in four Indiana counties have until Dec. 15 to apply for initial spots in Indiana's preschool pilot program.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration said Wednesday it has begun accepting applications for families in Allen, Lake, Marion and Vanderburgh counties. It will accept applications from families with household incomes below 127 percent of the federal poverty level for children who are 4 years old and starting kindergarten next August.

FSSA says the four counties will have a total of about 400 slots available in January. It says that if more families qualify than there are grants available, a lottery will determine which families receive the grants.

FSSA says a pilot program in Jackson County is expected to become online by the fall of 2015.
