Indiana Teen Dies From Gunshot Wound to His Chest

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) _ Police investigating the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old central Indiana boy say it appears he was shot by an underage relative.

Anderson Police Department spokesman Officer Joel Sandefur says preliminary findings indicate that Logan Anthony Armendariz was shot accidentally Monday by an underage family member.

The Middletown boy was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at an Anderson hospital with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Sandefur says the youth's “untimely death'' is a reminder of the importance of properly securing firearms inside homes.

The teen's great-grandmother, Betty Pruett, tells The Herald Bulletin she and other relatives are devastated.

Armendariz' obituary says he was an incoming seventh grader at Daleville Junior-Senior High School, where he was an honor-roll student and played basketball.
