Indianapolis Mom Convicted in 2-year-old’s Beating Death

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indianapolis mother has been found guilty of killing 2-year-old daughter following a punishment for peeing on the floor.

Brittney Massey was convicted Wednesday of murder, battery resulting in death and neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Her daughter, Destinee, died in November 2013 from multiple blunt-force trauma injuries to her head and body. Court records show she also had looped marks and bite marks on her body.

The documents say the 24-year-old woman admitted to beating Destinee after she peed on the floor, and then holding her face-down on a mattress to stop her from crying.

Court records show Massey's husband suggested taking Destinee to the hospital when he heard her groaning and gasping for breath. The documents say Massey refused until several hours later. Destinee died at a local hospital.

Sentencing for Massey is scheduled early next month.
