Indianapolis Officer’s Death Suspect Set for Court

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The man accused of killing an Indianapolis police officer was pushed in a wheelchair to make his first court appearance on murder charges.

Twenty-five-year-old Major Davis Jr. wore a red jail uniform as sheriff's deputies led him to a Marion County courtroom for a Tuesday morning hearing.

Davis is charged with fatally shooting Officer Perry Renn during a July 5 shootout. Authorities say Davis was wounded and was hospitalized for about a week.

Authorities say Renn and other officers were responding to a call of shots being fired on the city's north side when he exchanged gunfire with Davis, who hit Renn with three rounds from an AK-47 assault rifle
