Indy Mayor: Religious objections bill sends wrong signal…

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard says a so-called “religious freedom'' bill that Gov. Mike Pence plans to sign Thursday sends the wrong signal about Indiana.

The Republican mayor says Indianapolis is a diverse city and that he wants “everyone who visits and lives in Indy to feel comfortable here.''

Two big conventions have said they will consider taking their business elsewhere following Republicans' approval of the legislation that prohibits state and local laws that “substantially burden'' the ability of people to follow their religious beliefs.

Critics say it would open the door to discrimination, especially against gays and lesbians.
