INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The Democratic Governors Association is giving a half-million dollars to John Gregg’s campaign to become Indiana’s next governor.

The DGA announced the donation Tuesday amid a Republican shake-up caused by Gov. Mike Pence’s departure from the race to become Donald Trump’s running mate.

A handful of GOP contenders are now vying to replace Pence, but a candidate will not be selected until July 26.

Democrats are trying to capitalize on the vacancy. Besides the $500,000 donation, Gregg is running a new TV ad calling for funding a statewide preschool program. The ad also calls for a solution to testing glitches in student standardized exams that arose after Republicans overhauled the state’s education standards.
