Johnson pleads guilty to manslaughter in August shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A 20-year-old man has admitted to a murder that happened last August.

Daquavion Johnson pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in a plea deal that reduces his charges and would limit his prison sentence.

The News-Sentinel reports Johnson admitted to shooting Leon-Dre Kyles-Thomas in the chest last August 13th on Greene Street. The deal would toss out murder and weapons charges, and would see Johnson sentenced to 20 years, although he’d only serve 12 years in prison, with four years probation and eight years suspended.

Police say Kyles-Thomas was killed when Johnson allegedly rode by on a bicycle and opened fire, although Johnson says they shot first.
