Jury Finds 60-Year-Old Man Guilty of Killing His Landlord

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ A Delaware County jury has convicted a 60-year-old Indiana man in the fatal shooting of his landlord in January 2014.

The (Muncie) Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1HYmhaB) it took the jury just 30 minutes to find William Verlin Martz guilty of murder in the death of 50-year-old Mark Gilland of Eaton.

Witnesses testified during the three-day trial in Muncie that Martz was angry that Gilland intended to evict him and would no longer allow him to live rent-free on the property. Gilland was found in a barn shot five times.

Public defender Jake Dunnuck told jurors that nobody saw Martz on the property the day of the shooting.

Martz could face up to 65 years in prison. Sentencing has been set for Dec. 17.
