La Cabreah to be involuntarily annexed

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Although some residents changed their minds, the La Cabreah neighborhood will be fully annexed into the Fort Wayne City Limits.

It’s called an involuntary annexation, because although nine residents withdrew their signatures from a petition to annex the portion of La Cabreah that wasn’t part of the city already, the City Council argued they’d held a total of six public information meetings on the matter, meeting a state statute allowing them to change the annexation from “voluntary” to “involuntary,” according to the Journal Gazette.

Those who withdrew their signatures say they were misled on answers regarding emergency service response times and property taxes.

The Council voted 7-2 in favor of the involuntary annexation. The two “no” votes came from Jason Arp and Michael Barranda.
