Lafayette Man Gets 10 Years in Girlfriend’s Death

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ A Lafayette man convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the strangulation death of his 25-year-old girlfriend in 2013 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Journal & Courier reports Tippecanoe Circuit Judge Don Daniel determined that the aggravating and mitigating factors for Isael Sanchez's case were roughly equivalent, so on Friday he gave him the advisory sentence set by the state legislature for a Class B felony. Prosecutors had asked that Sanchez be sentenced to 20 years in the death of Marisol Arze-Lujan.

Sanchez read a statement of remorse before the sentencing, saying he wished he could take it all back.

Sanchez was arrested in Arkansas after he fled Indiana with the couple's three children.</span>
