Lawsuit Filed Over Crash that Killed Indiana Man

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) _ The family of a northwestern Indiana man killed in a fiery highway crash is suing the driver accused of causing that crash while driving intoxicated.

Relatives of 59-year-old Paul Gebauer of Crown Point filed a wrongful death lawsuit this week against St. John resident David Hatfield. Their Lake County suit seeks damages that include medical, funeral and burial expenses and lost earnings.

The 39-year-old Hatfield faces criminal charges.

The Times of Munster reports police say Hatfield crashed into the back of Gebauer’s van along U.S. 231 on March 17.

Hatfield was arrested as he allegedly tried to run from the scene.
