FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man accused of murdering his step-brother over an affair between the victim and his girlfriend made his first court appearance Monday.

33-year-old Joshua Mackin made his initial court appearance in Fort Wayne Monday and requested a public defender, after first asking for a speedy trial and declaring he would hire his own attorney, according to our Partners in News at ABC 21.

Police say Mackin shot Samuel Westlake to death in the parking lot of a Fort Wayne motel last month after an argument centered around Westlake sleeping with Mackin’s girlfriend.

On his way out of the courtroom, he told reporters he was “not guilty” and just wanted “justice for Sam.”

He’ll be back in court on March 28th.
