FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man facing a murder charge from a 1993 killing had his trial pushed back.

Instead of later this month, 55-year-old Richard Niemeyer will go on trial on July 18 in Allen Superior Court, according to the News-Sentinel.

His defense attorney told a judge that he needed more time to get a report from a DNA expert, along with cross-examining that expert.

Niemeyer is accused of killing Kevin Weisenburger at an apartment complex in May 1993. DNA from a cigarette butt and a white towel collected from the scene of the crime was tested in 2014 and matched Niemeyer’s DNA.
