Man Dies in Indianapolis Apartment Fire

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Authorities say one man has died following an apartment fire on the west side of Indianapolis.

According to the Wayne Township Fire Department, rescue crews responded to reports of a fire in which a person was trapped Wednesday night at the Addison Creek On Rockville apartments. Firefighters found an unconscious male in a second-story apartment.

Capt. Michael Pruitt tells the Indianapolis Star that the man's pulse was weak, but he was still breathing when emergency medical crews transported him to the hospital, where he later died.

Pruitt says firefighters were able to keep the blaze contained to one unit. He says four other apartments had some smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
