Man Falls From Tree Blind, Lays Injured For Nearly A Day

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO):  Conservation Officers are warning of the dangers of setting up tree stands.

Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, 55 year old Bob Wilson of Bellmore was attempting to install a tree stand and fell 20 feet.  He suffered injuries to the lower portion of his body, including his leg and had to be airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.

Officers say hew as not wearing a safety harness and did not have a cell phone to call for help.  Family members were able to locate him around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, nearly a day after the fall.

Conservation officers say always use proper safety restraints with climbing a tree.  They say the number one cause of hunting related injuries and deaths are falls from elevated platforms.  They also encourage the public, young or old, to attend an Indiana Hunter Education Program, to learn the ins and outs of hunting and how to stay safe while in the outdoors.
