Man Fleeing Police Dies after Crash

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): Northern Indiana police say a man fleeing police drove off a road and crashed into a tree, but his body and the fatal crash scene went undetected for hours.

South Bend police Sgt. Bill Kraus tells WSBT-TV a St. Joseph County police office was pursuing a speeding car about 1 a.m. Saturday when that officer was involved in a collision with a sem.

Kraus says the suspect in the pursuit then drove off a road and collided with a tree and a backyard shed near U.S. 31, killing him.

He says the area where the crash occurred has no residential lighting and it wasn't until more than six hours later that the crash scene was discovered after sunrise.

Police have not released the man's name.
