Man Killed While Walking Along I-65 in Central Indiana

WHITELAND, Ind. (AP) _ Police have identified a man who was struck and killed while walking along Interstate 65 in central Indiana.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Rich Myers says 21-year-old Cody Small had called his girlfriend to pick him up from work late Wednesday and decided to walk on the interstate to meet her.  Small was struck by a car in the northbound middle lane as he attempted to cross the highway about 10 miles south of Indianapolis.

Police believe Small was trying to cross to the southbound lanes so his girlfriend would see him. They say the driver tried to avoid hitting him.

Police say the Indianapolis man died at the scene. The driver wasn’t injured and stopped at the scene.

The highway’s northbound lanes were closed for about two hours.
