Man Sentenced for Fatal Shooting in Meth Fight

MONTICELLO, Ind. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for a fatal shooting in a small northern Indiana city during a confrontation over poor-quality methamphetamine.

A White County judge ordered the sentenced Thursday for 22-year-old Ray Chamorro of Schererville. Chamorro was convicted last month on murder charges for the October shooting death of 29-year-old Tye Rentfrow in Monticello.

Authorities say a person Chamorro was with confronted Rentfrow over meth he had bought from Rentfrow's friend. Chamorro was convicted of shooting Rentfrow, while four others were charged with felony counts of assisting a criminal.

Chamorro's attorney said he took his gun with him that day because he believed he needed it for protection.
