Man Sentenced to 68 Years for Apartment Complex Robberies

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man faces a 68-year prison sentence, related to crimes he committed a year ago.

According to the Journal Gazette, 21-year-old Devontae Hamlet was sentenced Friday for robbing and terrorizing Fort Wayne residents walking from their cars to their apartments.

Hamlet, along with 22-year-old Michael Jefferson, committed robberies at the Island Club Apartments and in a unit at Cambridge Square Apartments. Along with those two January 10th, 2013 robberies, Hamlet was also charged with committing two other apartment holdups reported the night of January 7th, 2013.

 

Hamlet pleaded guilty in December, to nine charges related to the robbery spree.

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Hamlet to a total of 68 years in prison – 20 years on a charge of felony burglary causing injury and six years each on the remaining eight charges.

Jefferson also pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
