Marion Among Best Small Cities in America

MARION, Ind. (WOWO): Two Indiana cities rank in Nerd Wallet‘s Top 10 “Best Small Cities in America.”

Nerd Wallet says Marion is the third best small city in the nation and Terre Haute is ranked ninth. Moorhead, Minnesota and Winona Minnesota are numbers one and two.

Nerd Wallet credits Marion‘s art scene, the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, a community arts school and the Marion Civic Theater as gems. It also notes the city‘s low cost of living. The median home value is $64,000 with the median homeowner cost including mortgage, taxes, maintenance, insurance and utilities in $744. That‘s the lowest in the nation.

Terre Haute is the largest city in the top 10. Their median home value is $77,000 with the median monthly cost at $823. Nerd Wallet also cites two universities Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Overall, Nerd Wallet says the low cost of living, reasonable commutes and economies boosted by jobs in health care, education and technology manufacturing helped cities in the Midwest perform well.
