BLISSFIELD, MI (WOWO) Blissfield police confirmed Wednesday that a military grenade was safely recovered from a home in the village. Officers responded after relatives reported a potentially dangerous device in the residence of a recently deceased man. According to WTOL-11 –  Michigan State Police Bomb Squad technician removed the grenade, which had been rendered inert and posed no threat to the community.

“While immediate precautions were taken, it has been determined that no threat to the community ever existed,” said Blissfield Police Chief Dale Greenleaf. He also reminded residents that if they encounter a suspicious device, they should leave the area immediately and call 911. “First responders are trained to safely handle these situations. We would rather be called to a device that turns out to be safe than not be called for one that could be dangerous,” Greenleaf said.
