FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – This year’s Miss Fort Wayne has been using her platform to help young women.

Grace Schoegler spent years dreaming of representing Fort Wayne. That dream became reality this year when she was crowned Miss Fort Wayne, and she’s already using the title to advocate for others.

Through her initiative, “Shine a Light,” Schoegler raises awareness about human trafficking and online exploitation, issues rooted in her own experience. She says at 13, peer pressure led her into online exploitation she didn’t understand at the time.

With support from her family, Schoegler turned trauma into purpose. Her advocacy gained attention from Indiana State Police, leading to testimony before state lawmakers.

Schoegler urged tougher penalties for online child exploitation, a message that resonated as the bill passed committee unanimously. The proposal now heads to the House floor next.
