More taxes? City Leaders Considering Ways to Recoup Property Tax Caps

The city is looking at a $6 million dollar deficit next year.

Some of the ways to make up the difference could be: a local income tax, adding maintenance fees to utility bills, and new insurance benefits.

The city is looking to recoup revenue after the state placed property tax caps in 2009. According to the Journal-Gazette, the city is already working below authorized levels for police and firefighters. It’s also an estimated $60 million dollars behind on road work.
