More Than 100 Local Ohio Governments Put Checkbooks Online

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ The Ohio treasurer says more than 100 local governments have put their spending information online through a treasurer's office website.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel says the information includes more than six million checks involving more than $14 billion in spending.

Mandel said Thursday the 114 municipalities include cities, counties, school districts and libraries across the state.

Mandel's OhioCheckbook.com offers a Google-style search of state expenditure records.

The treasurer said he hopes eventually that all of Ohio's nearly 4,000 local governments will put their spending online.

He said he expects the number to grow as taxpayers put pressure on their local officials.
