INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The NCAA has thrown its considerable heft behind efforts to get Indiana lawmakers to add LGBT civil rights protections into state law.
The organization announced Wednesday that it joined the group Indiana Competes to push for the change.
Currently Indiana doesn't offer statewide protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people prohibiting discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodation.
Indiana Competes has been warning that inaction on the matter by Republican Gov. Mike Pence and the GOP-controlled Legislature will harm the state's ability to attract talent and business to the state.
The group is comprised of more than 150 large and small businesses located in Indiana including Eli Lilly and Co., Cummins, AT&T and Anthem.
Pence's office did not respond immediately Wednesday to a request for comment.
