LIGONIER, Ind. (WOWO): A Tuesday morning police chase involving speeds of 100 miles per hour ended abruptly with the suspect vehicle crashing into a building in Elkhart.

The chase, which began in Ligonier around 1 a.m., started when officers attempted to pull over James Alan Savidge, Jr, who had been clocked doing 57 in a 40 mile per hour zone. When the officer activated his lights to initiate a stop, Savidge took off at a high rate of speed in his black Ford Explorer.

The Noble County Sheriff’s Department soon joined the chase, which eventually passed through Middlebury and part of Goshen. Savidge crashed into part of a fence at the Boys and Girls Club on Middlebury Street before the chase ended with a crash into a building in Elkhart. By this time there were members of six departments involved in the pursuit.

Savidge is currently in the Noble County Jail after being treated and released at a local hospital. He faces charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement.
