Noble County Public Library drops fines for overdue items

ALBION, Ind. (AP) — A northeastern Indiana library board is dropping fines for overdue items to encourage more people to visit its branches.

The Noble County Public Library board recently approved such a measure for all of its branches in Albion, Avilla and Cromwell. Library Director Sandie Petrie says the step has been under consideration for a while.

She tells the Kendallville News-Sun that kids might have a lot of fines and then they come in as teenagers and they can’t check out books because they have fines from when they were kids. She says the library doesn’t want anyone to be discouraged because they’ve got fines.

She says the goal is to increase library visitors and have people utilize the libraries more.
