FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Northwest Allen County Schools will consider eliminating its bus services.

The board of school trustees will discuss it Monday during its regular scheduled board meeting, according to Northwest Allen County Schools.

If the board agrees that transportation should be eliminated, then it will give a notice.

An Indiana code requires schools to give a three year notice that transportation services will be eliminated.

The schools will lose about $4,400,000 if the city continues with its plan to annex a large amount of real estate within NACS attendance areas.

“It is extremely difficult to reach the conclusion that transportation services must be eliminated in order to live within our constitutional obligation of keeping expenditures at or below available revenue,” Superintendent Chris Himsel said. “However, the City of Fort Wayne, if it moves forward with its current annexation proposal, leaves us with no other choice.”
