One of Two People Charged with Injuring a Child, Pleads Guilty

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man pleaded guilty to neglect of a child causing bodily injury, Wednesday afternoon in Allen Superior Court.

According to the Journal Gazette, back in September, both 27-year-old Gregory Higgins II and 36-year-old Angela Beck were charged with seriously injuring a toddler.

In exchange for Higgins’ guilty plea, he must testify against, Beck.

Higgins faces no more than 30 years in jail.

According to court documents, the duo would often leave three children, ages 15 months, 10 and 12, home alone while they looked for used metal to sell. However, it was injuries to the toddler's head that brought the high-level felony charges.

Higgins took the toddler upstairs with him last May. He told police he feel asleep with the child and woke up to find the child unresponsive. However, doctors said the child’s injuries were inconsistent with Higgins’ claim.

Higgins' sentencing date is scheduled for mid-May, shortly after Beck's trial on the neglect charge.
