Parkview Health to Pay $800,000 in Fines after Potential Privacy Violations

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Parkview Health has agreed to pay a federal agency $800,000 to settle potential privacy violations related to the disposal of medical records. In 2011, The US Department of Health and Human Services began an investigation after a complaint from a retiring physician saying 71 cardboard boxes of medical records containing data from up to 8000 patients were left unattended in the doctor's driveway when she wasn't home. The settlement includes a plan requiring Parkview to revise its policies and procedures.
