INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Gov. Mike Pence has filled the board of a Native American panel for the first time since 2006.

Pence announced Friday that he appointed eight board members to the Native American Indiana Affairs Commission to serve four-year terms through July 2018.

WRTV in Indianapolis reports (http://bit.ly/1phn22S ) the commission had not met since 2008. It will have more than $275,000 collected from special license plate sales that can be used for scholarships or health clinics.

The station reports that Native American groups had raised concerns about the lack of activity from the commission before. American Indiana Center of Indiana director Doug Poe said the commission “is supposed to give us a voice.''
