Plans Approved for North Indiana Hospital Expansion

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) _ A northern Indiana hospital has won permission to add three floors to one of its wings as part of an estimated $74 million expansion plan.

The Elkhart City Council voted unanimously night to approve the proposal from Elkhart General Hospital. Hospital president Greg Losasso says construction is expected to start in September or October and be complete in about two years.

The Elkhart Truth reports the project will mean nine new surgical units and 44 new private patient rooms at the hospital.

Losasso says the hospital also plans to build a helicopter landing pad for transporting patients.
